How to Get Rid of Common Viruses
Winter is upon us and that means the dreaded viruses are coming out of the wood work, waiting to be breathed in and threatening to destroy hot toddies, party season, and a lot of food enjoyment- the worst.
With this in mind, it’s worth knowing what these viruses are, what they do, and how we can banish them for good!
Not beating around the bush, Novovirus is a very unpleasant stomach bug that causes vomiting, nausea and diarrhoea. It’s nicknamed the “winter vomiting bug” which is exactly the last thing you want in winter. However, it lasts around 2 days which is some small silver lining. Other symptoms can include a headache, aching arms and legs, and a temperature of 38C or above.
So, how is the norovirus winter bug spread? Unfortunately, this virus is very easy to catch, and is very easily spread, which isn’t ideal. Close contact with someone with norovirus can see you contaminated effortlessly, along with touching objects or any surfaces that have the virus on them. Unfortunately, there is no place this virus won’t hide, including on the food you’re eating if it has been prepared by someone with norovirus on their hands.
As with any virus, getting rid of it can be tricky, but keeping this virus from spreading can be every trickier. That’s why stopping it dead in its tracks can do wonders for keeping it under control.
Adenoviruses are a group of common viruses that can infect the lining of so many parts of your body, which really is as horrible as it sounds. This includes linings of eyes, airways, lungs, urinary tract, intestines and nervous system.
These viruses and symptoms are the most common causes of issues like coughs, diarrhoea, and fevers.
These types of viruses can affect anyone, but they are more common in children than in adults. Statistically, most children will have one type of adenovirus by the time they are 10.
The flu, we’ve all heard of it. And unless you are extremely lucky, we’ve all experienced it too. Flu symptoms tend to come on very quickly and can include a mixture of symptoms, which include a sudden fever, all over body aching, a headache, feeling exhausted, sore throat, feeling sick or even being sick.
Unfortunately, for most viruses, a lot of the time it’s a “wait it out” affair. Which means lots of water to keep your fluids up, and plenty of rest. Occasionally if there are side issues that have happened because of the viruses such as an infection, antibiotics might be prescribed, but generally as a rule, nothing helps with viruses apart from good, old fashioned time.
Preventing viruses is impossible, but preventing them from spreading is definitely an option!
Did you know, that alcohol gel doesn’t kill viruses?
The best way to kill off a virus is to wash your hands with soap and water as it is the scrubbing and washing action that is the part that does the cleansing, rather than the soap itself. Bin all tissues used as quickly as possible, and don’t forget to use a tissue when you cough or sneeze to trap in those pesky germs!
Aside from those things, you can also use the aid of disinfectants which are great for killing bacteria off and preventing them from spreading. While there are plenty of disinfectants on the market, UniBlue is fantastic for killing off these pesky viruses 100% from any surface. It is also totally safe for children and pets, making it a great option for the home.
