Slips and Trips

Every month over a thousand people suffer serious injuries as a result of slips, trips or falls in the workplace. In 2006/07, 53% (841 of 1561) of major injuries to employees in the health services were as a direct result of slips or trips.

The cost to industry and individuals had become so high that the Shattered Lives Campaign was introduced by the Government (www.shatteredlifes.hse.gov.uk). The information provided by the Health and Safety Executive should be consulted by all managers and owners of businesses as it gives clear insight into risk management aspects and dealing with fall prevention.

The campaign targets Food Retail, Food and Drinks Processing, Catering and Hospitality, Building Maintenance, Construction, Health Services and Education in order to increase awareness and reduce the number of accidents in these industries.

In all these industries there are numerous situations, which can lead to falls but steps and ramps along with wet and slippery floors are often a major reason for accidents.

Employers should recognise the seriousness of slips trips and falls and take positive steps to prevent these types of accidents. A little time invested now can prevent staff injury and lost working time and avoid the potential costs of legal action. The measures required need not be expensive or require major alterations

Anti Slip Step Edge

A virtually indestructible fibreglass step available in Medium Grade for internal use or Coarse Grade for external use.

Anti Slip Tapes

Treadsafe

A superb hard wearing epoxy anti- slip coarse heavy duty coating for concrete, stone, metal and wood
Treadsafe is finished by rolling in hard wearing carborundum particles, which easily withstand heavy traffic, including forklift trucks and harsh chemicals.

Slip Resistant Floor Paint

Dustproofs, seals and transforms concrete floors into slip resistant areas.
The anti-slip aggregate is pre-blended with the paint to produce an evenly textured finish. The texture is easier to clean than "gritty" coatings, making it particularly suitable for large areas.
